Business apps – there are an abundance of them out there. In fact so many that we cannot keep pace with the ever-expanding app market, however we have managed to muster a list of the top 20 business apps for you and your business. Download these 20 apps and your life will be running smoothly so you can concentrate running and growing your business free of distractions and stress!
Productivity/Collaboration Business Apps
This list is in no particular order, although with that said, if it were then Dropbox would probably still be in the position it is now. We cannot think of enough superlatives to describe this app. Dropbox allows you to save files to an external hard-drive (a cloud) meaning you can access files from anywhere. This is great for businesses working on tasks together, meaning you can share files with each other and work on them simultaneously. This is something we do a lot, and it is especially useful internally for us as well as for clients that have images and videos that need sharing, reviewing, editing and approving.
Roomr allows you to find and book meeting rooms for free right from your smartphone. This app is great if you are looking for somewhere to meet in a city you aren’t familiar with and need somewhere to meet or even if your building is always jam packed and you can’t find somewhere to meet.
Evernote is the modern workspace that syncs between all of your devices. It allows you to store notes, photos, To Do lists and voice reminders amongst other things. You can also share it to friends and allow them to work on whatever you have been working on, which is great for collaboration.
4. Google Docs
Google Docs allow you to create documents on your iPad, iPhone or wherever you are using it and them. This is great for collaboration and allows you to see who is accessing and editing the same document at any time.
5. Google Drive
Google’s version of Dropbox, which actually offers far more free space than Dropbox (15gb as opposed to 2gb). Google Drive allows you to sync your files to an external hard-drive making it easy for you to share work amongst each other. The benefit of Google Drive over Dropbox is that you can integrate with other Google tools such as Google Docs. It’s a strong contender that’s taking on Dropbox and we use it with those clients of ours that prefer Google to Dropbox.
6. Audio Memos
Audio Memos is a voice recorder for the iPhone and iPad. What you’ll really like about Audio Memos, is that you can actually HEAR your recordings (try it and compare, you’ll hear what we mean). It’s also easy to use, with a simple and intuitive interface. Yet it comes with many advanced features such as volume boost, volume normalising, editing of recordings, and more. Most of these features are exclusive to this program, which makes it one of the most advanced recorders. This is an absolute must have for meetings (if you have a problem remembering what has been said, or can’t be bothered to write!) and has been invaluable to us.
Brewster syncs your contacts to your phone’s default address book. It brings together your contacts from Facebook, Gmail, LinkedIn, Yahoo, Instagram and other social accounts. It also shares your contact card with your contacts and automatically syncs their up-to-date info and you can access directly from your phone’s Mail, Messages, Phone, and Contacts apps.
Todoist is a great app at allowing you to manage your tasks throughout the day. It is arguably the best unknown productivity app out there and it will allow you to seamlessly manage your teams throughout the day.
Social Networking Business Apps
Weave is Tinder for networking. Too busy to go to networking events? Then check out this app. It matches you to likeminded business people in your area; swipe left if you don’t like the look of someone and right if you want to match to them, then chat away! Goodbye networking events?
We would be amazed if you haven’t heard of LinkedIn, but incase you are from some far off distance planet, LinkedIn is the Facebook for the corporate world. Think of LinkedIn as your professional resume. We’ve written plenty about this social network in the past, and is a great business app to have in your social networking toolkit!
Buffer is your must have social media scheduling app. Any link, text, picture or video you want to share, just add it to your Buffer. Your updates will automatically be scheduled and spaced out throughout the day to post to your favourite social networks. Plus, any update can also be “posted now” inside the app. An absolute must have for your social media management.
Skype is your go-to app for free video conferencing. Skype must have saved us a fortune in unwarranted travel journeys and also dial-in conference call lines! You can now host any meeting from your smartphone and e-meet anyone in the world.
Think of Yammer as the Whatsapp for business. Yammer is the enterprise social network that helps you and your team collaborate openly and stay on top of it all. With Yammer, you can connect to the right people in your organisation, share and search for information across teams, and organise around projects and ideas so you can do more.
14. Google Hangouts
Google Hangouts is Google’s version of Skype. The upside is you can include more than one person in a video call without having to pay for it. A lot of brands and even some celebrities are utilising hangouts as a way to “hangout” with their fans. So whilst it is a cool tool in which to use as a conference call app, you can use it for other things too like getting to know your loyal customers or hosting webinar-style hangouts!
Travel Business Apps
TripIt is the must have app for business travel. Simply forward all your hotel, flight, car rental, and restaurant confirmation emails to email@example.com. TripIt automagically transforms your emails into a master itinerary for every trip so all your plans are in one place! Then, view your itinerary anytime, on any device, and save time and hassle while you’re travelling.
Going to take a wild guess here and say you have heard of Uber?! Although if you haven’t then Uber is your private driver that is annoying all regular, traditional taxi drivers! A must have for any business person navigating the city or somewhere they haven’t been to before.
Finance Business Apps
Square is the revolutionary payment app. Square Register keeps track of sales and inventory, lets you manage items, and view analytics about your business – all from your point of sale. If you are in the U.S., you can also take payments with a Square Reader or Square Stand. No fees, commitments, or surprises.
Can’t stand your expense reports? Look no further! Expensify makes capturing receipts, tracking time or mileage, business travel and creating expense reports quick and easy. Acknowledged by the tech community as the best app for expense reporting, Expensify takes the time, paper, and headaches out of your expense reports!
News Business Apps
If it isn’t already, then Feedly needs to become your first and only choice for aggregated news. Need to stay on your toes with business news and other content relating to your industry, then you really need to check Feedly out.

We are not suggesting you should download all of these business apps, mainly because your storage on your iPhone/iPad will be maxed out! But the above should hopefully make your life – whether you are running your own business or forging a career for yourself on the corporate ladder – a little less stressful than it needs to be!
